Located in Southern Thailand, Phuket is the largest island in the Land of Smiles. While tourists flock to Phuket for its beaches and parties, it is undeniable that the island also offers amazing food. With a wide array of culinary influences—Chinese (Hokkien), Indian, Malaysian, and even European—your taste buds will be in for a treat at Phuket.
In this food guide, I’ve compiled the restaurants and other food spots I visited during our Phuket trip. I’ve separated the food spots that offer local food from those that serve international cuisines, and have also created a separate category for cafes and dessert spots.
Please take note that most are located in Phuket City/Old Town. Only a couple are located outside of it (namely in Patong). And to know more about every spot, just click on the provided link.
So here are the Phuket restaurants, cafes, and other food spots you should visit:
Local Food
Chuan Chim
Chuan Chim is a Thai-Chinese restaurant with over seventy years of history and now run by its second generation. It’s known for their delicious, wok-fried dishes that even the MICHELIN Guide noticed, awarding it with a Bib Gourmand. It was also featured by Bangkok-based American food vlogger Mark Wiens. He’s the reason I found out about Chuan Chim.
My favorites there include Chicken with Cashew Nuts, Pad Krapow Moo Sub (Holy Basil Stir-Fry with Minced Pork), and Tom Yum Pla (Fish Tom Yum or sour soup). All the dishes are so good and it won my heart to Thai food! Check out my experience by clicking the link below.

Go Benz
Also awarded with a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, Go Benz is a hole-in-the-wall famous for its dry porridge or boiled rice (yes, there is such a thing) and other pork dishes. It’s popular among locals and tourists that it’s still packed with diners late at night.

Jadjan by Ko Dang
Jadjan is a hole-in-the-wall headed by Chef Dang (or Danny), who worked in the hotel industry for 20 years (including Marriott) and, at one point, for Benihana in Texas. The restaurant specializes in both Central and Southern Thai cuisine.
We tried the “Mark Wiens Menu”, which consists of Fish Curry, Squid with Crispy Garlic, and Stir-Fried Kale with Crispy Pork. All the dishes are amazing!

Mee Ton Poe
Mee Ton Poe is an institution in Phuket City. It’s been serving its signature Hokkien Mee, a stir-fried noodle dish composed of thick egg noodles, pork, seafood, and veggies, since 1946. If a food spot has been around for such a long time, you know that they’re really good!
Mee Ton Poe’s Hokkien Mee is my favorite dish in our entire Phuket trip! Find out why by clicking the link below.

One Chun Cafe and Restaurant
When I was researching for food spots to visit in Phuket, consistently present in every list is One Chun Cafe and Restaurant. It is known for serving Phuketian and Southern Thai food. Its food is so good that it was awarded a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand.
One Chun is housed in a Sino-Portuguese structure. It has a retro interior adorned with antique furnitures, old wall clocks, and vintage TVs and radios. All of these make the restaurant charming.

A MICHELIN Bib Gourmand awardee, The Charm Dining Gallery is a restaurant that specializes in Thai Peranakan food. To the uninitiated, the Peranakan is an ethnic group with Chinese and Malay descent. They can be found in Phuket, Malacca and Penang (Malaysia), and Singapore.
A visit to The Charm is like visiting a museum. The shophouse-turned-restaurant have renovated its interior to keep it as close as possible to the original house.

Cafes, Dessert Spots, and other spots
Mad Hog Tavern Phuket
Mad Hog Tavern Phuket is a bar and cafe that will bring joy to Harry Potter fans. It is formerly known as Hog’s Head Phuket, named after the fictional, disreputable pub and inn in the wizarding village of Hogsmeade that’s frequented by shady customers.
But unlike the Hog’s Head in the book, Mad Hog Tavern is a fun place. There are many Harry Potter paraphernalia inside, such as the Nimbus 2000, the broomstick that Harry rode in a Quidditch game.

Origami Cafe
Origami Cafe is a cafe chain in Phuket serving all-day breakfast, coffee, and locally-inspired cakes. One of their branches is conveniently located at the ground floor of our hotel, Blu Monkey Boutique Phuket Town.
We tried several cakes that are inspired by local desserts or made with local ingredients (or both).
Thaivetro Oldtown
Thaivetro is a local ice cream shop that offers more than 80 flavors, ranging from classic ones such as Chocolate and Madagascar Vanilla, to Thai flavors such as Thai Tea, Phuket Pineapple, and even Tom Yum Kung (sour soup with shrimp). They even make ice cream with beer, vodka, and a local energy drink.
