What to See (and Eat!) in Makati Street Meet at Paseo de Roxas?

On weekends, one of the major roads of Makati City’s business district—Paseo de Roxas—closes to make way for the Makati Street Meet. It’s a street market composed of food and retails stalls.

Because of the December rush, my wife and I weren’t able to make time to visit it. But finally, we got to check it out last Saturday (December 16, 2023) and sampled its food. Here’s what we tried:

Cheesecake on a Stick at Crave It!

Cheesecake on a stick? I thought it was trendy. But the I was pleasantly surprised how good the cheesecake is. It’s light and creamy, and I can easily devour it in a minute.

Crave It!

We tried the “Calix” Cheesecake on a Stick, which has Twix, salted caramel, and semi dark chocolate. I love the textures!

Crave It! also sells Mini Pancakes but we didn’t get to try it.

Doughnuts at Doughmain

Unfortunately, they ran out of Leche Flan Doughnuts when we arrived. So we got their Boston Cream, which is rightly sweet and has a nice dark chocolate topping, and their Creme Brulee, which has a crisp top and a tart filling. The doughnut itself is fluffy.

Because we came at night, the doughnuts were on 50% discount!

Poke Tacos at The Blue Apron

We’ve been seeing this in bazaars but haven’t gotten the chance to try it. So when we visited the Makati Street Meet, we made sure not to miss it.

The Blue Apron

Instead of tortilla, The Blue Apron uses a deep-fried, battered nori as the taco shells. It’s unbelievably sturdy and has a nice umami. I tried all flavors except for the Krazy Kani (crabstick) because we’re allergic to it.

Poke Tacos

All the fillings are good. Here’s what I think:

  • Shawarma: Has a generous amount of meat.

  • Sinful Salmon: The salmon is fresh and torched, and the tempura flakes add additional crunch.

  • Super Sisig: The fried pork bits are tasty although on the chewy side. The fried quail egg adds to the yumminess.

  • Tempting Tuna: The tuna is fresh, and the cream cheese adds to the yumminess.

Horchata at Subtle

Subtle is a mobile coffee bar that does pop-ups. While their coffee is tempting, I had to avoid because of my acid reflux (sad!). So I opted for their Horchata instead. It’s milky and has a strong cinnamon flavor.

Taiwan Fried Bao

This stall sells Sheng Jian Bao, a cross between Siopao (Chinese pork bun) and  Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings). Their version has a crisp bottom and a tasty filling, although I wish there’s a bit more soup in it.

Other Food We Didn’t Get to Try

Cookies (forgot to take note of the stall’s name)

Filled Croissant at Paris Delice

They were offering free samples and I like the Salted Egg Custard.
