Whenever I’m abroad, I would always take a break from local food and eat something that reminds me of home. Since Filipino food is scarce abroad, even in Thailand, I would turn to Western food (in which we are so used to in the Philippines), be it from a casual restaurant or a fastfood chain. In Phuket, we visited Prime Burger, an award-winning burger spot in Phuket (see my review here). And in this article, I’m featuring another Western spot in the island.
Since my wife loves all things British, we went to a restaurant serving authentic British food. Authentic British food is virtually nonexistent in our country so going there was a no-brainer. The restaurant is called Fatboys Cafe & Restaurant.
Fatboys is located in Patong, Phuket’s most famous beachtown. It is owned, according to the waiter, by a British national, so customers are guaranteed that they’ll be served legit British food.
We went at lunchtime so it wad quiet. But I’m sure it’s livelier in the evening and during sporting events.
They are famous for their Giant Filled Yorkshire Pudding and Sunday Roast. Unfortunately, the Yorkshire Pudding wasn’t available during our visit, and there’s no Sunday Roast because we visited on a weekday. So we went for other British classics.
We tried their Fish & Chips, which is made with Atlantic cod. The fish is juicy and flaky, and the chips are massive.
It also comes with mushy peas, which has a nice texture because of the bits of peas.
We also got their Full English Traditional Breakfast. It has two of the following: English pork sausages, English back bacon, fried eggs, and toast. It also has beans, black pudding, a hash brown, mushrooms, and a choice of coffee, juice, or tea.
Although some of the components need more salt or seasoning, I must say that it’s an enjoyable dish overall.
We chose orange juice for our drink:
Fatboys also serve other British classics such as Bangers & Mash and Chicken Tikka Masala, and Thai food.
We had a pleasant visit at Fatboys Cafe & Restaurant. We like the food and its open-air concept. I can just imagine its energy in the evening and during sporting events; it must be fun. I highly recommend Fatboys to you!
