Farmer's Table (Tagaytay City): Serving Farm-to-Table Goodness
I’m doing a Tagaytay City Food Trip this month. Check out the installments so far: Bag of Beans (Charito Branch) | Lime and Basil Thai Restaurant | LZM Restaurant
Recently, my wife celebrated her birthday and we’re supposed to celebrate it at Breakfast at Antonio’s (article coming soon!). But she discovered a fairly new restaurant in Tagaytay—Farmer’s Table. We went there instead.
Located in Nurture Wellness Village, a health and wellness tourism destination, the Farmer’s Table is a restaurant that features a farm-to-table concept. They serve healthy food, even offering vegan or vegetarian dishes. It was opened in 2021 by Raintree Hospitality, the same group behind Friends & Family and The Coconut Club at Bonifacio Global City (BGC), and Cha Cha’s at Boracay.
I like that the Farmer’s Table is all al fresco and has a high ceiling, ready to meet dining needs in the post-pandemic world.
They have a mini farm where they source their herbs and vegetables:
You can also buy local products there:
And if you’re a plantito or plantita, you can also buy plants there to add to your collection:
Anyway, let’s talk about the food, starting with their Snacks & Small Plates (appetizers). We first tried their bestselling Hothouse Crispy Cauliflower & Brocolli. It’s sweet, spicy, and tangy. But it wasn’t as crisp as I expected it to be, and I wish that the bleu cheese dip had more funk to it. Still, it was a good appetizer and is also one of my favorite in Farmer’s Table.
We also tried their Kale Chips & Dip, which is light and super crisp, and their Activated Charcoal Battered Calamari Fritti, whose squid is rightly cooked. However, the calamari’s batter isn’t too crisp.
Finally, we ordered their Crispy Fried Tawilis (freshwater sardines). You can never go wrong with this fish, especially when eaten with rice!
After getting our appetites up, we went on to have pizza. We had their Cinque Formaggi (five cheese) pizza and their Butcher’s Best, which has double-smoked bacon, Italian sausage, bell peppers, and onions. Both pizzas has a crisp and charred crust, and a sweet and tangy tomato sauce.
Let’s now talk about the meats. No visit Tagaytay would be complete without Bone Marrow Bulalo Soup (bone-in beef shank soup). Its beef is tender and its veggies are super fresh and crisp. And while the broth is tasty, it’s less salty than usual. But I guess that’s intentional because Farmer’s Table promotes healthy eating.
We also tried the California-Style Roasted Rosemary and Lemon Garlic Chicken, which is flavorful. Its sauce is like Caldereta (a tomato-based stew), actually.
Finally, we had their Chili Garlic Pork Knuckle or Crispy Pata. It has a tender meat but it’s not as spicy and garlicky as its name suggests.
For dessert, we tried their Mango Suman Sushi, which is a Filipino variation of the Thai mango sticky rice but in the form of a Japanese roll. Its suman (sticky rice) is soft, mango is tart, and chocolate is dark. Then the sesame seeds add texture. It’s an enjoyable dessert!
While there’s nothing spectacular with the food at the Farmer’s Table in my opinion, they serve good food overall. I think families would enjoy dining here, especially in a chill Tagaytay weather. I recommend the Farmer’s Table to you.
