Bag of Beans: One of the Top Restaurants in Tagaytay City
I’m doing a Tagaytay City Food Trip this month. Check out the installments so far: Lime and Basil Thai Restaurant | LZM Restaurant
When you search for the best restaurants in Tagaytay, you will find that Bag of Beans is in every list. It is known for its breakfast, comfort food, and Raisin Bread, which is similar to Baguio Country Club’s.
We recently visited their Charito branch, which is located in the summer house of the family of Atty. Conrado and Atty. Felicitas Diaz.
The said branch is also by the Tagaytay ridge so it has a fantastic view of the Taal Lake and Volcano.
It also has a quant interior:
On our visit, we ordered a mix of Filipino and Western (particularly English) dishes. We tried their Shepherd’s Pie, which is what Bag of Beans is also known for. It has creamy mashed potatoes, tasty minced meat, and savory gravy.
Since we already ordered an English dish, we also had their Fish and Chips. It has a light and crisp batter, and paired with crispy fries.
Because Bag of Beans is also known for their breakfast, we tried their Breakfast Sampler. It’s composed of crisp bacon and hash browns, flavorful sausage (it’s sage-y), runny eggs, and soft pancakes. This is a breakfast of a champion!
Now on to the Filipino food, starting with Bulalo (a bone-in beef shank soup dish). Their version has a comforting broth, tender meat, and crisp veggies.
You really can’t go on a Tagaytay food trip without eating Bulalo!
Finally, we ordered their Bangus ala Pobre (fried milkfish cooked in savory sauce, garlic, and onions), because I miss LZM Restaurant’s humongous Boneless Bangus. It’s meaty, and its belly is fatty and yummy!
By the way, you can check my article on LZM Restaurant here. It’s my favorite spot in Tagaytay for Bulalo.
And before you leave Bag of Beans, make sure you bag their Raisin Bread (see what I did there?). You can but it at their pasalubong (souvenir) store, where other goodies are also available.
As with any restaurant serving comfort food, I wasn’t expecting much of Bag of Beans. But I have to admit that their food is good and I’m kind of impressed. So when you’re in Tagaytay, drop by Bag of Beans, especially their Charito branch for its picturesque view. I recommend this restaurant to you!
