LZM Restaurant: My Favorite Bulalo Spot in Tagaytay City (and They Have Bangus on Steroids!)

If you want to escape the heat in Manila but don’t have the time to go to Baguio, a perfect destination would be Tagaytay. Located south of the Metro, this city in the province of Cavite is just an hour (or two) away, depending on traffic. Plus, you will not run out of food options there!

I’ve visited Tagaytay several times already but I’ve not written about my favorite food spots there. So I’ll be doing a Tagaytay food trip series this month. And to start, I’m writing about my favorite bulaluhan (Bulalo spot).

To the uninitiated, Bulalo is Filipino bone-in beef shank soup with vegetables such as Baguio beans, cabbage, corn, pechay, and potatoes. The best part is the bone marrow, which is sinfully rich!

You will never run out of Bulalo options in Tagaytay. Just drive along the main highway and you’ll see a lot of bulaluhan lined up. But there’s only one that I keep coming back to, and that’s LZM Restaurant.

LZM Restaurant Magallanes Square Branch

LZM is a Filipino restaurant that is famous for their Bulalo and Boneless Bangus (milkfish). The restaurant’s name is an acrostic of the owners’ names: Luzviminda, Zenaida, and Manolita. LZM started in Silang, a municipality beside Tagaytay, and has expanded to Imus City (Cavite), Santa Rosa City (Laguna), and of course, Tagaytay (at Ayala Malls Serin and Magallanes Square).

You can’t come to LZM and not order their Bulalo, which has a tasty broth and tender beef. The veggies add texture to every bite.

If you want to try something new, you can also go for their Sinigang (sour, tamarind-base soup) na Bulalo. In fact, I like this even more!

Another reason I keep coming back to LZM is their award-winning Boneless Bangus. It’s so huge that I’d like to think it’s on steroids! LOL. I’ve never seen a bangus that’s so big and meaty.

It’s tasty and it goes to another level when dipped with a sawsawan (dip) of calamansi, chilies, and soy sauce. Let’s not forget the belly, which is fatty and amazing!

I also love their Chicharon Bulaklak (deep-fried pig mesentery or ruffle fat), which is crisp and fatty, and Grilled Squid, which is stuffed with cheese and veggies!

And whenever I’m in LZM, I always order their Garlic Rice, which is buttery and garlicky. I know that Bulalo is best paired with plain rice. But trust me, their Garlic Rice works with it!

Sure, there are many bulaluhan in Tagaytay City. But let me say this: LZM Restaurant is a cut above the rest! Their Bulalo is my favorite in all of Tagaytay and their Filipino dishes are delicious. Plus, I get to order their Boneless Bangus on steroids. I highly recommend this food spot to you!
