Tagaytay City Food Guide: Restaurants and Pasalubong Shops You Should Visit

If you want to escape the heat in Manila but don’t have the time to go to Baguio, a perfect destination would be Tagaytay. Located south of the Metro, this city in the province of Cavite is just an hour (or two) away, depending on traffic. Plus, you will not run out of food options there!

I’ve visited Tagaytay several times already but I’ve not written about my favorite food spots there. So I started a short Tagaytay Food Trip series this month (start reading here) and I’m now culminating it with this food guide. Take note that I’ll be updating this guide as I get to try and review more food spots in the city.

So in alphabetical order…

Antonio’s

As the 74th placer at the latest list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants (congratulations!), Antonio’s is considered the best restaurant in the country by many foodies.

Antonio’s

They are popular for their steaks. So we tried their 40 Days Dry Aged Charcoal Grilled Angus Rib Eye Steak. You can check my review of it here.

Asiong Caviteño Restaurant

Originally from Cavite City, Asiong is a Filipino restaurant promoting Caviteño cuisine, including their famous (and one of my favorites) Pancit Pusit (squid ink stir-fried noodles).

They’ve already moved to a new location (still in the same street). So I can’t wait to revisit Asiong and feature them in my blog!

Bag of Beans

When you search for the best restaurants in Tagaytay, you will find that Bag of Beans is in every list. It is known for its breakfast, comfort food, and Raisin Bread, which is similar to Baguio Country Club’s.

We sampled their the Breakfast Platter, English dishes, and some Filipino food. Check out my review of Bag of Beans here.

Balay Dako

Literally “big house” in Negrense, Balay Dako is a restaurant that proudly serves Filipino food. It’s also a restaurant from the Antonio’s group, so you’re assured that the food is top-notch!

Address: Tagaytay-Nasugbu Hwy., Tagaytay, Cavite, Philippines | Operating Hours: Monday-Friday, 9AM-9PM; Saturday & Sunday, 7AM-9PM | Contact Nos.: (046) 413-4866 | 0923-7266290 | Facebook | Instagram | Website

Breakfast at Antonio’s

A staple breakfast spot (and one of the best!) in Tagaytay is Breakfast at Antonio’s. Also from the same group behind Antonio’s and Balay Dako, Breakfast at Antonio’s serves all-day breakfast and bistro food.

At Breakfast at Antonio’s

Its interior is cozy, perfect for breakfast. You can have a view of the outdoors by the window side. Or if you want a view of the Taal Lake and Volcano, you can dine at its al fresco area (if it’s open).

Cecilia’s

In the 90s, Colette’s was the reigning king of Buko (Coconut) Pie. There were Colette’s stall for every hundred meters or two along the main highway. But new buko pie stores have been opening up in recent times, including Cecilia’s.

Cecilia’s Buco Pie

It’s now my favorite because of its crisp coconut meat and creamy filling. I can easily finish an entire box of it!

Farmer’s Table

Located in Nurture Wellness Village, a health and wellness tourism destination, the Farmer’s Table is a restaurant that features a farm-to-table concept. They serve healthy food, even offering vegan or vegetarian dishes. It was opened in 2021 by Raintree Hospitality, the same group behind Friends & Family and The Coconut Club at Bonifacio Global City (BGC), and Cha Cha’s at Boracay.

Lime and Basil

Lime and Basil is a vacation/rest house converted into a Thai restaurant. It started out as a hobby by one of its owners, Sigrid Sayos, accepting reservations from family and friends, and opened on weekends only. Because of overwhelming feedback, the hobby eventually turned into a full-time endeavor. It started in Alfonso and they now have branches in Tagaytay Highlands and even in Baguio!

LZM Restaurant

LZM is a Filipino restaurant that is famous for their Bulalo (bone-in beef shank soup dish) and Boneless Bangus (milkfish). The restaurant’s name is an acrostic of the owners’ names: Luzviminda, Zenaida, and Manolita. LZM started in Silang, a municipality beside Tagaytay, and has expanded to Imus City (Cavite), Santa Rosa City (Laguna), and of course, Tagaytay (at Ayala Malls Serin and Magallanes Square).

Rowena’s

Another popular pasalubong spot in Tagaytay is Rowena’s, which is famous for their tarts. One of my favorites there is their Buko Tart, which is the coconut version of an apple crumble.

Their Cheese Tarts and other fruit tarts are also worth bringing home.

For Rowena’s branches and operating hours, visit their Facebook and Instagram accounts, and also their website.
