Rose & Grace Restaurant (Santo Tomas City, Batangas): Your Bulalo Stopover When Traveling South

On June 12, we will be celebrating the Independence Day of the Philippines. So I thought of dedicating the whole month to Filipino food. This is the first of this Filipino food series.

Nothing beats a good food stopover whenever you’re doing a long drive. When you’re traveling south of the Metro, particularly to Quezon province, the Bicol region, or parts of the Laguna province, a classic stopover is Rose & Grace Restaurant at Sto. Tomas, a city in Batangas. It’s hard to miss it due to its yellow color and red accent.

Rose & Grace Restaurant Santo Tomas (Batangas) Branch

Rose & Grace is a Filipino restaurant that’s famous for Bulalo (bone-in beef shank soup). With more than 50 years of heritage, it is definitely an institution in the city. It also has a branch in the city of Sta. Rosa (Laguna) so you don’t need to drive further south if you want to try their food.

We were once on an evening trip to Quezon so Rose & Grace was easily our choice as a dinner stopover.

Rose & Grace was packed when we visited

Of course, we ordered their signature Bulalo. It has a light, tasty, and balanced broth. The meat is tender and the veggies are crisp. It’s not the best version I had but definitely among the best ones.

We also ordered Sisig (a hash traditionally made of pig ears and jowls). Rose & Grace’s version is creamy and smoky!

I saw Grilled Tuna Belly in their food warmer. Since it’s my favorite, we ordered it as well. While it has a nice char, it’s on the dry side. Probably because it’s been sitting in the warmer for a long time.

We got intrigued by their Deep-Fried Intestines so we also tried it. It’s crunchy and satisfying, and perfect when dipped in vinegar!

We had a pleasant stopover at Rose & Grace Restaurant. Overall, they have good and comforting Filipino food. So when you’re traveling south and have the opportunity, stop by Rose & Grace. I recommend it to you!
