Ramen Nagi’s Premium Butao: The Classic Butao King Ramen with a Luxurious Twist (It Has Fresh Truffle Slices and Foie Gras!)
Ramen Nagi, a Japanese ramen chain, is offering an elevated version of its classic Butao ramen for this month’s Limited King—the Premium Butao.
Premium Butao is a Butao King added with fresh truffle slices, foie gras, and balsamic vinegar.
The broth has a strong truffle taste. Honestly, the truffle slices lack flavor. But the balsamic vinegar gives a nice acidity, and the foie gras is juicy and creamy. The chashu (pork shoulder) slices are thin and tender.
Believe it or not, it my first time to eat foie gras. It’s like (and forgive my comparison, foie gras lovers) chicken liver, which I love. I’m sure there are better versions of it but Ramen Nagi opened my eyes to it.
To upgrade my Premium Butao experience, I ordered the Nagi Toppings Set, which has cabbage, chashu bits, green onion, nori (seaweed), and tamago (marinated soft-boiled egg).
It’s our first time to encounter their Soy-Glazed Chicken Karaage (is this available in select branches?), which is their Classic Chicken Karaage (Japanese fried chicken) covered sweet soy glaze. It’s crisp, juicy, tender, and has a nice sweet glaze.
The Premium Butao is a good ramen. However, I don’t think it’s “life-changing” enough that I’ll spend P950 for it again. I can just order the Butao King, which is good already, and spend the difference for Gyoza (Japanese dumpling) or Karaage. Still, it’s nice to experience it once. Try it while it’s available (it’s only available until July 31, 2024).
