When I first visited Baguio as a working adult, one of the food spots I visited was Canto Bogchi Joint, which I was told specializes on ribs. It used to be located at Ketchup Community, a now-defunct food park near Wright Park.
I remember that the ribs and salad were solid. So (almost) every time I’m in Baguio, I would pay Canto a visit (in its current location in Kisad Road), trying to convert my family and friends to become Canto followers. So in our recent visit to the City of Pines, my family and I dropped by Canto to check if it’s still good.
I think it’s my first (or second time) to visit Canto when the sun is still out. Their white interior gives a bright and cozy atmosphere:
They also have an al fresco area:
We started our meal with their signature Cascade Salad. You can’t go wrong with fresh Baguio greens dressed with homemade vinaigrette and topped with fruits in season (watermelon in our case), cucumbers, alfalfa sprouts, peanut bits (actually, it’s bits of peanut brittle, which is a popular Baguio souvenir), and cheese.
The greens are crisp, the peanut brittle bits are sweet and caramelly, and the vinaigrette is sweet and mustardy! It’s refreshing and still good as I remember it to be!

Of course, we had to order their bestselling Lomo Ribs, which is grilled pork ribs covered with barbecue sauce. It comes with Cascade Salad and a choice of mashed potatoes or rice. We tried the mashed potatoes, which is delicious and has bits of potatoes, which we like.
The meat is not as tender as I remember it to be. But the sweet and tangy barbecue sauce makes up for it. Overall, I think it’s still a great dish!
An item that we tried for the first time is the oven-baked Beef Ribs covered with red wine jus and served with roasted veggies. The meat is super tender and the sauce has a nice hint of red wine. The veggies add crunch to the dish.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to try their popular Dessert Nachos. I’ve always been told to order it. But for some reason, I haven’t done so. So I have a reason to come back!
Canto Bogchi Joint has maintained its quality. Their food remains delicious, the prices are still reasonable, and the ambiance is cozy. It should be on your Baguio eat-cinerary. I highly recommend Canto to you!
