QC Food Crawl: Bigg's Diner, Danny-Licious Barbecue, and Tri-Mo Shawarma Co.
I realized that I have mostly confined my foodventures to Makati (where I live) and the nearby Bonifacio Global City (BGC). So I decided to explore the cities in the Metro, especially Manila and Quezon City (QC). So for this article, I will feature 3 food spots in QC which I recently visited.
Bigg’s Diner
Bigg’s Diner is an institution in Bicol, the southernmost region of the Luzon island. It started in Naga City in the 80s and has branched out in the Southern Luzon area ever since. It expanded northward from Bicol until it finally reached the Metro, opening a branch in QC last November 8.
Bigg’s serves American and Filipino comfort food such as burgers, rice meals, and southern fried chicken. I tried their Crispy Chicken, which is juicy, tender, and nicely breaded, and the Baby Back Ribs, which is “spoon tender” (I can tear apart the meat using a spoon).
I’m hoping that they open a branch in or near Makati so I can try more of their food. It took me 3 hours of commute just to get to SM Fairview!

Danny-licious Barbecue
Danny-Licious Barbecue is a hole-in-the-wall in the Project 4 area that serves barbecue skewers and carinderia (eatery) food. Its pork barbecue is listed second in Spot.ph’s Top 10 Pork Barbecue in Manila (2018 edition). That says a lot about this place.
I tried all kinds of skewered items in Dannylicious: Balat (pork skin), bilog (pig intestine), bulaklak (pig mesentery) isaw-c (another pig intestine), isaw-manok (chicken intestine), pork barbecue, and tenga (pig ears). What I like about these skewers is that, unlike other barbecue stalls, they’re rightly marinated. Many barbecue stalls overly marinate their skewers, even using food coloring.
Best of all, Dannylicious’ skewers feel clean (in eating innards, I think this should be a factor), are nicely charred, and are deliciously fatty. This may be the best barbecue spot that I have tried in all of the Metro!

Tri-Mo Shawarma Co.
While I’m at the north QC area for Bigg’s Diner, I also dropped by Lagro Subdivision to visit Tri-Mo Shawarma Co. This food joint is known for meat-packed shawarma wraps and even shawarma on sizzling plates, which keeps the food warm for a long time. It also brings me high school memories, as a branch of church was nearby. So every time we have an activity there, I would drop by Tri-Mo to get my shawarma fix.
Granted, it’s not the best shawarma in town. As long as I can remember, I find the meat to be on the dry side. I guess the job of the sauces is to moisten it up. Still, if you want to fulfill your shawarma cravings and be full, Tri-Mo will get the job done. And since it’s open until late, it’s also a good afterparty place or hangover cure.
