2.0 by Lomi King: Serving My Favorite Lomi in Lipa City (Batangas)
When you’re in the province of Batangas, one of the dishes you should try—aside from Bulalo (bone-in beef shank soup) and Gotong Batangas (cow innards soup)—is Loming Batangas.
Lomi is a noodle soup composed of egg noodles and various toppings (it varies per region and recipe). While lomi is available in many food spots across the nation, the best ones, I think, is found in its place of origin—in Lipa City in Batangas.
The best one that I’ve tried so far is from Lomi King, which is an institution in the city. They opened another branch—2.0 by Lomi King—which has a more upscale menu. With the recommendation of our friends, we went to 2.0.
My wife and I love enoki mushrooms, especially when it’s battered and deep-fried. So to whet our appetites, we ordered their Crispy Enoki Mushrooms. You just can’t go wrong with it!
Of course, we ordered their Classic Lomi, which is topped with bola-bola (meatballs), kikiam (a Chinese sausage-like roll made with minced pork and wrapped with beancurd skin), minced pork, and pig liver. It has chewy noodles, generous bola-bola and liver, and fatty kikiam. But what I like the most is the broth.
Loming Batangas is usually on the plain side. It’s because it comes with a side condiment composed of chopped white onions, soy sauce, and calamansi (plus siling labuyo or red chilies if you like it spicy). But I appreciate that Lomi King’s broth is already tasty by itself. The condiment only enhances it.
If you visit a lomihan (lomi spot) in Batangas, chances are they’re also serving Chami, a pancit (stir-fried noodle dish; lomi is also considered a pancit) that’s also made with egg noodles and has a sweet and spicy flavor profile.
Lomi King’s version of chami has the same toppings as their Classic Lomi but with the addition of seafood, vegetables, and scrambled eggs. The noodles are chewy, the taste is slightly sweet, and the scrambled eggs are fluffy. To be honest, I enjoyed this more than the lomi.
Finally, we tried their Gotong Batangas, which has medium chunks of tender innards, swimming in a hot, tasty broth. This is a satisfying bowl of soup!
There are other items in 2.0’s menu, mostly Filipino and Asian dishes, which I hope to try someday. But their Lipeño or Batangueño food is so good that there’s really no need to order other dishes. Needless to say, I highly recommend 2.0 by Lomi King to you!
