McDonald’s Next: The Fanciest McDonald’s in Hong Kong (But It Used to Be Fancier!)
I have a confession to make: My wife and I usually eat at McDonald’s whenever we’re abroad. We’re big fans of the American fast food back home (the Philippines), especially of their Chicken McNuggets and fries. The McDo (that’s how we abbreviate in the Philippines) abroad simply reminds us of home when we’ve been away for too long.
So on our Hong Kong trip, we made sure to try the city’s McDonald’s. But we didn’t just go to any McDonald’s. We went to McDonald’s Admiralty Centre, also or formerly known as McDonald’s Next, which is the fanciest branch in the city.
So what makes it fancy?
For one, the interior is a step above the average McDonald’s. It has an industrial feel.
It also has a cafe that serves items that aren’t usually offered in a McCafe. They have cakes, sandwiches, and salads.
You can also charge your devices, as they have USB ports and wireless chargers.
So let’s talk about the food we tried. First is their Cheesy Champignon Angus Burger. It’s part of The Signature Collection, which is McDonald’s Hong Kong’s premium burger offerings.
Since the patty is one hundred percent made with Angus beef, it’s beefier and juicier (though a bit on the dry side still) than the usual McDonald’s patty. Then it’s dressed with tangy sauce, topped with crisp veggies, earthy mushrooms, and sweet onions, and sandwiched between two buns (I believe it’s brioche). It’s easily the best McDonald’s burger I have ever had!
We also got their GCB, which I think stands for “Grilled Chicken Burger”. While the chicken is made from thighs and is tender, we find the seasoning unpleasant (we think it’s seasoned with five spice). This one is a miss for us.
Of course, we will not miss the opportunity to try their Fresh Club Salad (you won’t get this in a regular branch). Its veggies are crisp, the croutons are crunchy, and the parmesan shavings add sharpness.
However, we didn’t realize that it’s served with New Luncheon Meat, which is actually plant-based luncheon meat. While it totally makes sense (why add processed meat to something healthy?), we’re simply not fans of it.
Pre-pandemic, this branch of McDonald’s was fancier. They plate their food nicely and even provide customers with silverware. They also allow customers to customize their burgers (even add a slice of pineapple to it) and have more “fancy” offerings (like croissant sandwiches). I wish I was able to visit it in its glory days. Let’s hope that they will bring it back again!
Overall, we had a pleasant experience with McDonald’s Hong Kong. If you’re a fan of the American fast food giant, then I highly recommend that you visit McDonald’s Next/Admiralty Centre.
