When my wife and I were preparing for our Hong Kong trip, we watched a video that featured a local cookie shop that’s popular among locals—Jenny Bakery. Thank God we did!

Jenny Bakery Sheung Wan

Jenny Bakery specializes in butter cookies. It started out as a hobby by its owner, Auntie Jenny, and it became a business, opening its first shop in Stanley. Today, it has two branches in Sheung Wan (Hong Kong Island) and Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon), and has expanded throughout East and South East Asia.

We went to the Sheung Wan branch where there’s a long but fast-moving queue.

Aside from butter cookies, Jenny Bakery also sells other confections such as candies and crisps.

The Menu at Jenny Bakery

Jenny Bakery is also known for its tin can packaging, which features an art work of an adorable bear dubbed as the “Smart Bear”. They change the design monthly as a way to protect themselves from counterfeiters.

We got their bestselling 4 Mix Butter Cookies, which has the following:

Butter Flower Cookie: This original butter cookie is so buttery and crumbly. I also like that it’s not overly sweet, like the mass-produced kind. Actually, all the Jenny Bakery cookies we tried aren’t too sweet.

Coffee Butter Cookie: This one has a strong coffee taste.

Raisin Oat: Instead of using whole raisins, this cookie has chopped raisins that’s evenly distributed throughout the cookie. I don’t normally like oatmeal raisin cookies. But this one stands out!

Shortbread: It’s also buttery like the original.

We also got their Chocolate Butter Cookies, which have a bitter chocolate taste.

By the way, Jenny Bakery doesn’t accept credit cards or other electronic payment methods. So make sure you bring cash and lots of it!

Honestly, we regret that we only tried our Jenny Bakery cookies when we arrived home. If we only knew that it was so good, we would’ve hoarded more of it. It’s buttery, crumbly, and rightly sweet. In short, it’s the best I’ve ever had! I will definitely come back for it someday, and I highly recommend it to you!
