EDOYA Japanese Restaurant: One of the Newest Japanese Restaurant in Makati City’s Little Tokyo (You Can Even Wear Kimonos Here!)

I’m so blessed to be living in Makati City. Because when I’m craving Japanese food, I won’t run out of options. If I want ramen, I can go to Mendokoro Ramenba (or Marudori). If I want modern Japanese, I can go to Kodawari or Ginza Gyu. But if I want go traditional, I can go to Manmaru or the OGs like Nihon Bashitei.

Last year, a new Japanese restaurant was added to the roster of establishments at Makati’s Little Tokyo—EDOYA Japanese Restaurant. I’ve been wanting to visit it and I finally did recently.

Inside EDOYA

EDOYA has wooden interiors, giving traditional Japanese vibes. There’s even a Torii gate in the middle, which makes you feel that you’re in Kyoto or in a Shinto shrine.

To add to the Japanese cultural experience, you can even wear kimonos for free!

Interestingly, there’s also a cafe within EDOYA called Chotto Matcha. It specializes on matcha-based drinks, as well as coffee and desserts (more on this later!)

EDOYA serves traditional Japanese food prepared by Japanese chefs, so the food is as authentic as it can get. We tried their Maguro (Tuna) Mosaic Roll, which is an artful sushi roll. The cucumbers are crisp but I wish that the tuna is bigger.

Their Spicy Salmon is fresh, creamy, and spicy.

We also tried their Mushroom Tempura (I forgot the exact name), which has a light and crisp batter.

Their Jyo Rosu Tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlet) is probably my favorite in all of our orders. It has a fatty and tasty meat, covered in light and crisp panko breading. It comes with an amazing tartar dip, which is creamy and eggy.

EDOYA’s tonkatsu can level with the ones served by tonkatsu chains here in the Philippines!

Their Steak Rice has a tender steak and moist fried rice.

Among all our savory orders, the only item that’s underwhelming is the Asari (Clams) Butter. It’s too sweet for me.

To end our meal, we ordered drinks and desserts from Chotto Matcha. I like their Strawberry Matcha, because it has a nice bitterness from the green tea leaves and a nice sweetness from the strawberries.

Left to Right: Strawberry Matcha (PHP205) and Peach Coffee (PHP160)

Their Peach Coffee is also good. I never would’ve thought the coffee and peach will go well together!

Unfortunately, their cookies, although tasty, are dry! Skip these!

EDOYA Japanese Restaurant is one of the better Japanese restaurants I’ve tried in the Philippines. They have good food and a vibrant vibe. I highly recommend it to you!
