Bored and Hungry: Best Burger in America? (With Pop-Up at The Grid Food Market, Makati City)

Back in late November and early December, Bored and Hungry, an American burger spot, did a pop-up in Manila. It is a California-based, Non Fungible Token (NFT)-themed restaurant which also accepts payment in U.S. dollar and cryptocurrency forms.

Bored and Hungry is themed around the Bored Ape Yacht Club, which a popular NFT collection. It’s restaurateur-founder, Andy Nguyen, bought Bored Ape Yacht Club #6184 for $267,000, which is now the brand’s main logo. He also purchased two Mutant Apes, which cost around $65,000 to $75,000 each.

The Long Beach brand started out as a 90-day pop-up. But due to it’s success, it became a permanent restaurant.

Bored and Hungry serves Trill Burgers, which is dubbed the best burger in America for 2022 by Good Morning America. Trill Burgers is the brainchild of Houston rapper Bun B, Andy Nguyen, and publicist Nick Scurfield. Up to this date, Trill Burgers still operates on a pop-up basis and has yet to open a brick-and-mortar location.

On November 30, 2022, the Tasteless Food Group, the group behind food concepts such as The Grid Food Market and Your Local, brought Bored and Hungry to Manila. In its first day here, we arrived at one of the pop-ups an hour before its closing but the burgers were all sold out already. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to visit any of the pop-ups anymore due to a busy December schedule.

But I received a Christmas gift when Tasteless announced that Bored and Hungry will be doing another pop-up at The Grid starting December 26, 2022 until January 26, 2023. So I went as soon as I can.

I tried the Bored OG Burger Combo, which comes with the Bored OG Burger (which I assume is also the Trill Burger), fries, and a soda.

I will say it right away: The burger is amazing! It comes with two beefy and ultra-juicy smashed patties, melted slice cheese (which make the burger rightly cheesy), sweet caramelized onions, and crisp and sour pickles, all sandwiched in two soft buns that have absorbed all the flavorful juices.

Look at that yummy OG Burger!

The fries are crisp and simply seasoned with salt and pepper.

So is Bored and Hungry’s Bored OG Burger/Trill Burger the best in America? I must say that it’s a bold claim. But one thing I know: It’s one of the best not just in the U.S. but in the entire world. In fact, it’s now the best burger I have tried so far. So while you have the chance, do visit it’s pop-up at The Grid (again, it’s only until January 26, 2023). I highly recommend it to you!
