The Sunny Side Cafe Group: The Leading F&B Group in Boracay
The Sunny Side Cafe Group is the leading F&B group in the island. Started by Nowie and Odette Potenciano in 2014, the group consists of Coco Mama (vegan coconut ice cream), SpiceBird (piri-piri), Supermagic (burgers), and it’s namesake cafe, The Sunny Side Cafe, among many others. In this article, I will share our experience with all of the abovementioned spots.
The Sunny Side Cafe
Let’s start with the cafe that started it all. The Sunny Side Cafe has an all-day breakfast menu, which was inspired by the travels of the Potencianos.
We tried their bestselling Bacon and Mango Grill Cheese, which is a hefty sandwich. I like the combination of the sweet mango jam, thick and crisp bacon, and salty and creamy cheese. Then it’s all sandwiched between two humongous slices of soft bread.
Sunny Side’s grilled cheese sandwiches comes with tomato soup and a choice of side salad or sweet potato hay. I find the soup sweet (perhaps a bit more sweet than usual), tangy, and peppery. I got the sweet potato hay, which add crunch to the dish.
We also tried The Sunny Side Cafe Roesti (think of it as the Swiss version of a grated potato frittata). I find the potato plain but the house-made crumbled chorizo makes up for it. The runny egg yolk adds creaminess and tomato a refreshing crunch
If you want a good breakfast place, then The Sunny Side Cafe should be on your list.

Coco Mama
If you want to beat the Boracay heat with something sweet yet guilt-free, then Coco Mama is for you. They serve gluten-free, lactose-free, low-glycemic, and vegan coconut ice cream. Then it’s topped with different ingredients and served in a coconut shell.
We got the one with all the toppings, which are mango, pinipig (toasted glutinous rice grains), and sticky rice. Just imagine all the textures!

Spicebird
SpiceBird specializes in piri-piri dishes. “Piri-piri’ or “peri-peri” is a chili from Africa which the Portuguese turned into a sauce or marinade. SpiceBird makes their own version of the sauce.
I already tried SpiceBird because of their pop-ups at the now-closed Hole in the Wall food hall at Century City Mall, and at The Grid Food Market at Power Plant Mall in Rockwell. Still, I got to try it in its place of origin. The taste is the same—amazing!
We tried the Piri-Piri Scallops, which are fresh and tastes like the sea. It’s also smoky and covered in spicy and tangy piri-piri sauce.
Of course, no SpiceBird visit is complete without having their piri-piri boards, which come with a protein (chicken or pork), spice rice, side salad, grilled corn, and a milky roll. We got the Griled Piri-Piri Pork (belly), which is fatty, tender, and super smoky.
We also tried the Fried Piri-Piri Chicken since it’s new in their menu at that time. It’s moist and juicy, covered in light and crisp batter. It’s easily one of the best fried chickens I have ever tasted!

Supermagic
Supermagic Burgers is said to have the best burgers in Boracay. Their patties are freshly ground upon order and seasoned with their signature Umami Dust, a blend of Kampot peppers, sea salt, and umami-laden ingredients.
I tried their Umami Burger Set, which consists of Supermagic’s signature burger and comes with fries and iced tea. Its patty is ultra juicy, perfectly seasoned, and rightly minced, while the cheese is perfectly salty and sharp. My only wish is that the bun was less dry but that got compensated by the patty’s juiciness. Overall, it’s an amazing burger!
We weren’t able to try The Sunny Side Pizza, which I heard makes good pizzas. And since we left Boracay, I believe The Sunny Side Cafe Group opened new food concepts, giving us a reason to return!
If you’re in Boracay, make sure to try The Sunny Side Cafe Group’s food spots!
